Monroe County Stormwater Partnership Program
The Stormwater Partnership began in 2013 with a small goal: to provide cost-share to residents on repurposed rain barrels. The County has continued to invest in this program and now supports MCSWCD annually to provide cost-share and educational programming. It is exciting to see where conservation will go in Monroe County in the years ahead due to this unique opportunity and partnership. One of the key components to this program is the funding, which is generated from the stormwater fee applied to residential, commercial and industrial properties in Monroe County.
Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District was established by the State of Indiana in 1943 by a referendum vote of landowners in Monroe County. The mission is still the same today, to provide educational, technical and financial resources to the landowners of Monroe County in regards to soil health, water quality and all things natural resource related. MCSWCD works in partnership with local, state and federal government agencies and organizations to address natural resource concerns in Monroe County. The MCSWCD is an equal opportunity provider.
Monroe County Stormwater is a division of the Monroe County Highway Department. The County Commissioners established the Stormwater Ordinance on July 1, 2011. The stormwater fee was then established by County Council on July 26, 2011. The mission of the Stormwater Program of the Monroe County Highway Department is to reduce drainage concerns, reduce flooding hazards and maintain/improve water quality. To accomplish this mission, the tools of comprehensive planning, public education, and cooperative management of our storm sewer system are utilized.
